i think the next major shift in the political party system is going to come in the form of a party split, most likely with the republicans. i see a mounting opposition within the party to the currently dominating neocon slant (i found this editorial to be an interesting insight), especially with the seeming embarrassment of the last 8 years (with the state of the war, the failure to capture bin laden, the current economic turmoil, a national debt now beyond $10 trillion, and approval ratings this low, it's hard to imagine why they wouldn't be embarrassed). when this split does come, and i'm guessing it'll be within the next 5-10 years, these third parties will have a great opportunity to establish a larger base. it's kinda like when the 1st baptist church has too many internal conflicts, so half the congregation leaves and starts the 2nd baptist church--usually more conservative than the 1st--and there's always people who turn presbyterian, even though they only sprinkle! i very much respect your support of a third party candidate. unfortunately, in mississippi your vote will amount to pretty much what my vote for obama in tennessee will: little or nothing. maybe we should move?

You know, maybe I'm just in the vast minority here, but I don't understand why people get so worked up over politics. Don't get me wrong: I had a rather, erm, energetic conversation with a coworker the other day who believes that Creationism Intelligent Design needs to be taught alongside the theory of evolution in science class as I tried unsuccessfully to convince him that I.D. is theology rather than science. And I certainly don't understand some of the arguments that people use in favor of a particular candidate or another.
But I would never even consider stooping as low as name-calling or stealing somebody's sign.
I mean, everybody is entitled to his or her own opinion. While I may not understand people's aversion to Obama (I know a lot of the reasons, as well as the reason that nobody will say outright, of course, but that's not to say I understand any of them at all), I certainly can understand that they don't like him for whatever reason. I hardly hate them for that decision.
Does that make me odd?
