Also, a fellow LJer reminded me of something my mother said to get me through a tough time:
"True love is when your love for that person is greater than your need for them."
Is that so?
Yes, I've grown to believe love is more genuine, more real, more healthy when it's voluntary and given. When love is indistinguishable from need and dependency, is it really love or just an emotional crutch? That's not to say that being in love and being loved shouldn't be a source of self-esteem, but rather that it comes from giving and receiving instead of taking and needing.
Just wanted to remember it.
