Saturday, zordac and many of my friends had been conspiring for over a month to throw me a surprise birthday party. I was already giddy about getting to spend the day with the Jackson crew, but I clueless about anything else.
everraven and mandis13 hosted under the cover of a large-scale gaming day. alcamar and starbuckanear made up an excuse about not wanting to ride in a cramped back seat the entire trip so they could leave early with the cake, balloons and other supplies. kesterly and zordac rode with me so nothing looked too suspicious. birdofparadox, glover, gsan and rogers made food, brought gifts, and company.
It was the first surprise party anyone has ever throw for me. I've always loved coordinating them for other people, but zordac took one of my biggest wishes and gave it to me as a gift. I feel utterly warm and fuzzy and gooey-girly inside that so many of my friends showed up to help me celebrate it. It was bloody wonderful.
There were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle paper plates, bags-o-circa-1984-plastic-toys (dinosaurs, army men, farm animals, trees and rocks for terrain) jammed into Ninja Turtles party favor bags, exploding balloons, a relighting candle, and onion-soup burgers, and gobs of candy. I felt like a putuitary-imbalanced kid!
And received several beautiful, thoughtful gifts: a Margaret Atwood book I've never read (Good Bones and Simple Murders in hardback!) from birdofparadox, a new copy of SnowCrash, which is my favorite book in the universe, from glover, Fearless Girls, Wise Women, & Beloved Sisters and the most gorgeous journal I've ever owned from everraven and mandis13, a set of 75 clay poker chips that I've been wanting for months upon months from kesterly, and, of course, a TiVo from zordac which I'd already had out of the box and attached to the t.v. one week prior.
Thank you, guys, so much, for making my weekend blissful. I still haven't stopped smiling.
The Friday night before was dinner at Boure', cards and Kirk-fu, and later Lawrence of Arabia. Sunday was a little more Christmas shopping, dinner at On the Border, and The Missing at the Paradiso Malco in Memphis. Thanks for recommending the movie, everraven, and the theatre, birdofparadox. I'm thinking about seeing if we can get Return of the King tickets there, although I expect it to be packed.
